Tristel produces medical disinfectants from its base in Snailwell, Cambridgeshire. The company makes innovative products to keep endoscopes, ultrasound probes and other equipment safe to use – and it does it well. With nine sites around the world, and a new site being developed in Newmarket as this case study was prepared, Tristel is a growing, global business.
The company began life in 1993 and went on to capture a significant market share in the UK hospital market. Tristel plc was listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM market in June 2005, and its manufacturing plant in Cambridgeshire was established in 2007. Since then it has created new brands and extended into multiple overseas markets.
FCC Innovation’s Laura and Liz headed to Snailwell to meet Bryn Clark, IT Project Engineer, to find out more about why the company has chosen to invest in Foldr, a solution offered by our team, as an addition to the print hardware and services it had already installed.
Tristel has been a customer of First Copy (and later FCC Innovation, the new trading name for office portfolio within the business) for several years, initially with multifunction printers and Managed Print Services (MPS), so the two companies have worked together in partnership for some time.
The relationship built between Bryn and our sales and analyst team is such that when Foldr was mentioned as a convenient way to access files and folders on the go, the IT team at Tristel decided to find out more. Tristel had tried out Sophos Secure Workspace for a little while but it wasn’t quite what the team were looking for. So, when Mark Mills, our Pre-Sales Analyst, introduced Foldr and its capabilities, Bryn and Tristel decided to invest.
Foldr is a hybrid cloud storage and user management system. This means that it brings documents held in cloud storage together with documents held in on-site storage and allows access to them from an easy-to-use interface. In effect, it shows all your files in one place, no matter where they are stored. Foldr therefore allows users to easily access, edit, share, manage and search for documents held in multiple locations from any enabled device. In Tristel’s case this device is usually a smartphone, but Foldr also works with tablets.
Security is not an afterthought and Foldr includes Secure Identity Management and Single Sign On (SSO) for users. Advanced auditing and visualisation tools mean that it is possible to control who can see what and monitor who is accessing and sharing information. Foldr uses 2-factor authentication to ensure a user’s identity and employs end-to-end encryption. Find out more on our product page and on Selectec’s Foldr pages.
“Foldr is mostly used by our Sales Team,” Bryn told us. “They work all over the country and around the world, and as remote workers the team are often to be found on customer sites. The technology is very helpful. If one of them is in a hospital, for example, they are able to access the marketing material and price lists they need immediately, without the frustrations associated with trying to log onto their laptops with a VPN connection or anticipating their needs beforehand and emailing the required documents to themselves before the meeting.”
The IT team at Tristel are finding they are spending much less time troubleshooting VPN issues, which frees up time for them to deal with other things. “In a relatively small IT team, the time saved is significant, and even better, it’s time saved at an affordable price point” says Bryn, “I’d recommend Foldr to anyone!”
In fact, the Tristel team has been so impressed with Foldr (even team members sometimes critical of new technology!) that Bryn even recommended the solution to a former colleague over a drink. Praise indeed, and we’re delighted that solutions that we provide warrant this kind of accolade.
